For those who regularly participate in sports the threat of injury is an ever present risk and physiotherapy treatment can be a regular occurrence to aid the healing process. Although the benefits of physiotherapy in sports injuries are well documented, less well known is the role of physiotherapy in prevention of injury or correction of any dysfunction before it leads to injury.
One of the greatest dangers to any sportsman is the recurrent injury. This is usually an ongoing debilitating process of injury, incomplete recovery followed by re-injury which can develop into an insidious cycle of persistent symptoms, long term inactivity and eventually becoming a chronic problem. Ultimately this can be the end to particular sports or activities. Physiotherapy can intervene at the beginning of this destructive process to correct any musculoskeletal dysfunctions that may progress toward injury.
